Pl. Vy. asst. principal resigns; 2 terminated
The Pleasant Valley School District had a few surprising personnel departures in May.
The school board accepted the resignation of PVHS Assistant Principal Ariella Mease during its meeting on May 21, and terminated the employment of two other personnel, whose names and additional information were not made public. A right-to-know request was filed for information.
Mease was hired in May 2024 and began her job on July 1 of that year. She became the second assistant principal and was assigned to provide student support for students whose last names began with Gav to Ol.
Her starting salary was $83,100.
Prior to coming to PVHS, Mease was employed at Phillipsburg MIddle School in Phillipsburg, N.J. as a science teacher. Her last day at PVHS was May 4.
Other resignations announced on May 21 include: Joan Mattson, monitor, PVMS, effective April 29; and John Grimaldi, custodian, PVIS, effective May 6.
Since the beginning of this school year, several teachers have resigned or announced their retirements.
Teachers who have resigned include: Alexis Nemeth, special education teacher, PVIS, effective April 7; Dalton Marsh, biology teacher, PVHS, and Matthew Kuhn, information systems technician, PVIS, both effective April 17.
Roberta McMaster, a sixth-grade English as a second language teacher at PVMS, retired on Jan. 7.
As the school year comes to a close, the teachers who are retiring include: PVES: Danielle Staples, special education teacher; PVIS: Todd Urland, Lisa Williams and John DeVivo, music and band; PVMS: Amy Hetherington, math teacher; and Susan Geiger, social studies; PVHS: Brent Lewis, social studies teacher; Maria Brant, Spanish; Stephen Caffrey, learning support; Andrew Witinski, physics; and Talitha Graham, chemistry.
Linda Stephens, a Health Room technician at PVMS, also is retiring.
