Weatherly ceremonies honor fallen
Despite the rainy morning weather on Memorial Day, members of the American Legion Post 360 and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 360 in Weatherly conducted Memorial Day ceremonies.
The ceremonies were at the Spring Street Monument, Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery and Union Cemetery, with the main program taking place at the Eurana Park Pavilion.
Shane Moran served as master of ceremonies, while Pastor David Clarke of Trinity Baptist Church provided the invocation and benediction.
Judy Desrosiers, Americanism chair of Unit 360, led the Pledge of Allegiance and recited the poem “Poppies to Remember.”
Angela Nardini performed the national anthem and John Simcovich sang “Soldier Boy.”
Weatherly Area High School senior Raymond Montz recited the “Gettysburg Address” and senior Grace Portell recited “In Flanders Field.”
Unit 360 President Georgeann Herling read “Freedom is not Free.”
The main speaker was Mark J. Blasko, a retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel and Freeland native. Taps were sounded by WASD Band Director Daniel Derflinger, with high school band member Thomas Maguschak providing the echo.
The Post 360 Honor Guard performed the salute to the dead.
