Tamaqua woman jailed in PFA violation

A Tamaqua woman who was involved in a four-hour standoff with law enforcement in March was recently sent to jail for violating a protection from abuse order.

According to Tamaqua police, the PFA against Alysha Hartshorn, 39, prohibits her from entering 501 Washington St.

After it was issued on May 14, Hartshorn entered the residence and police found her in the basement.

She was taken into custody and arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Anthony Kilker. She was committed to the Schuylkill County Prison in lieu of $50,000 straight bail.

On March 14, Hartshorn broke into the home through the basement, retrieved two rifles and ammunition, and barricaded herself inside an upstairs bedroom.

Police closed down several streets in the area during the standoff, which eventually ended when state police entered the bedroom through a second-floor window.

Also at that time, Hartshorn was ordered to stay away from the home as part of her court-imposed bail conditions from an assault case in February.
