Planners lack quorum to act on projects

No formal recommendations will be made on four proposed land development/subdivision plans around Carbon County before they are sent to municipalities.

The Carbon County Planning Commission, which normally meets the third Tuesday of each month, could not hold a meeting due to a lack of a quorum Tuesday.

Comments from Ivan O. Meixell Jr., county planner, for the proposed plans in Banks Township, Lansford, Nesquehoning/Lehigh Township, and Penn Forest Township, will be sent to municipalities for inclusion in their reviews, pending the county commissioners’ authorization.

David J. Bodnar Jr., director of the Carbon County Office of Planning and Development, said Wednesday via email that the meeting would not be rescheduled. Under the code, if a meeting does not happen because of a lack of quorum, the items on the planning commission’s agenda can be forwarded to the municipalities so projects are not held up.

Bodnar added that while this is not common, the county has had this happen in January 2022, and the commissioners authorized the project reviews to be forwarded.
