Community collecting for displaced Brockton family

Donations are being accepted for those who lost everything in a fire that tore through their Brockton homes Wednesday night.

The fire at 35 Valley St. was reported around 10:45 p.m., and spread to both sides of the duplex.

Gimbel’s restaurant, 123 E. Broad St., Tamaqua, is asking for monetary donations, gift cards, personal care items or meals for the families.

The restaurant will not be collecting clothing as others are doing so. All clothing donations be dropped off at other collection sites, such as Weiss Wicked Styles in Tamaqua.

The 139 W. Broad St. beauty shop is accepting clean, gently used or new clothing items for the victims.

Girls’ clothing in size 10 to 12, and size 14 to 16 is needed, as are girls’ shoes in sizes 3 and 7.5.

Women’s medium/large and women’s 2XL clothing is sought, as is men’s extra-large clothing.

Items may be dropped off during salon hours.

“Small towns show up for each other when it matters most. Let’s help this family rebuild one step at a time,” April Weiss, owner, said.
