Democratic, GOP voters select state committee members
Members of the Democratic and Republican parties in Carbon, Monroe and Schuylkill counties participated in balloting for state committee positions within each party in Tuesday’s primary election. Here’s a look at the results:
Carbon County
There was no candidate on the Democratic side in Carbon, where one person is scheduled to be elected to the statewide committee.
On the Republican side, the party’s bylaws call for one man and one woman from the county to hold the positions.
Darin Dotter of East Penn Township was unopposed and received 3,254 token votes.
Rochelle Pasquariello of East Penn Township defeated Rebecca Hassenbein by a margin of 2,673 to 1,883.
Monroe County
Six people aspired to membership on the state Democratic committee, with one man, one woman and one of either gender to be elected.
The totals showed: Claudette Williams of Mount Pocono, 6,748; Anne Tiracchia of Stroudsburg, 6,201; Tameko Patterson of Stroud Township, 5,888; Tim Sanders of East Stroudsburg, 5,833; Charles John Keppler IV of Pocono Township, 3,065; and Trenton Barry Schaffer of Polk Township, 2,378.
On the Republican side, three people will be elected to the state committee in the same manner.
The results were: Josephine Ferro of Middle Smithfield Township, 5,151; Shelli Bird of Ross Township, 4,716; Thomas C. Whitehead of Tunkhannock Township, 4,561; and Sal Piccolo, Tunkhannock Township, 3,076.
Schuylkill County
Five people were unopposed in seeking at-large positions on the state Republican committee, where two men, two women and one person of either gender will represent Schuylkill County.
The candidates and their votes were Mary Beth Dougherty of Girardville, 7,499; Gretchen D. Sterns of Deer Lake, 7,468; Mike Rader of Butler Township, 6,802; Seth Hubler of Branch Township, 6,718; and Larry Wittig of West Penn Township, 6,301.
Two candidates ran to represent Schuylkill County on the state Democratic committee. The bylaws call for one man and one woman to be elected.
Jack Reilly of Ashland received 5,602 votes, while Elizabeth A. Bettinger of Pottsville tallied 6,058 votes.
