Democratic committeeman post decided in Towamensing

The Democratic Party in Carbon County had a shortage of candidates for committeemen and committeewoman positions in the county’s 51 election precincts in Tuesday’s primary election, where one man and one woman in each district is to be elected.

There was, however, one contested race, the committeeman post in the Northern District of Towamensing Township. The winner was James P. Shafer, who defeated Jeff Schnaiter by a margin of 52-43.

Uncontested

The party had uncontested candidates in nine other precincts. The districts, candidates and their token votes included:

East Penn South: Albert Holczman, 77; and Mary E. Coover, 80.

Jim Thorpe Fifth District: Robert Boehning, 60; and Ciro Lo Pinto, 61.

Mahoning Township New Mahoning District: Terry J. Berger, 37; and Mildred Heiser, 38.

Palmerton Middle District: Sarina Berlow, 167.

Palmerton West District: Deborah Smith, 43.

Summit Hill First: Nathan R. Halenar, 80; and Tara L. Yuricheck, 81.

Summit Hill Second: Delores McAndrew, 84.

Summit Hill Third: Michael Crampsie, 82; and Melissa Crampsie, 81.

Weatherly West: Shannon Lee Sotack, 32.

No candidates

Elsewhere, there were no Democratic committee candidates in 41 of the 51 county election districts, including: Banks Township, Beaver Meadows, Bowmanstown, East Penn North, East Side Borough, Franklin Township Harrity, Independent and Long Run districts, Jim Thorpe districts 1-4, Kidder Township North and South, the East, Middle and West districts of Lansford, Lausanne Township, Lehigh Township and Lehighton’s 1, 2 and 3 districts.

Also, Lower Towamensing North and South, Mahoning Township Mahoning and Packerton-Jamestown districts, Nesquehoning East and West, Packer Township, Palmerton East, Parryville, the East, Middle; Northeast, Northwest and Southwest districts of Penn Forest Township, White Bear district of Summit Hill, Towamensing South-1 and South-2, Weatherly East and Weissport.
