St. Nicholas parish dedicates Stations of the Cross garden
St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Lehigh Township dedicated its new Stations of the Cross garden on Sunday, marking the completion of a project three years in the making.
The Mass was led by The Most Reverend Bishop Alfred A. Schlert.
After the service the parishioners followed Bishop Schlert, led by the Knights of Columbus Honor Guard.
Each cross was blessed as the parishioners followed to each one.
The garden features 14 Stations of the Cross, commemorating Jesus Christ’s final day on Earth, with a focus on his passion, death and burial. The devotion is intended to inspire gratitude, compassion and repentance, giving believers the opportunity to spiritually “walk with Jesus” through his suffering.
The stations are arranged along a peaceful walking path, providing visitors a setting for prayer, reflection and devotion to the Passion of Christ.
After the procession and blessings, visitors and parishioners were invited back to the church for light refreshments.
“Special heartfelt thanks to all who have given time, talent, and devotion to bring the Stations of the Cross to life,” the parish said in the program for the event. “Through your generosity and faithful service, you have helped create a sacred place where all may enter into reflection, encounter the mystery of Christ’s Passion, and find peace in His presence to all who visit.”
The message also expressed appreciation to those who helped guide the project from start to finish.
“Deepest thanks to Father Adam Sedar for planting the original vision and founding this project, to Father Abraham Ha for faithfully carrying it forward, and to the Kevin Joswick Family for embracing it with such creative artistry and inspiring purpose,” the parish said.
The parish noted the garden is meant to serve as a lasting symbol of faith and community.
“May this garden remain a testament to our shared faith, a place of remembrance of our Lord’s sacrifice, and a living sign of what can be accomplished when we come together in service to God and one another,” the parish said. “May all who visit be drawn closer to Christ and strengthened in His love.”
Volunteers who contributed to the project included Stephen Zavisty, Christopher Madea, Jose Torres, Tyler Ruggiero, Dean Crosson, Anthony Boyle, Neil Kelly, Sam Maczko, Aiden Bober, Christian M. Betz, Kevin Ricky Joswick, Mark Madea, Liam O’Connor, Christian O’Connor, Eleanor O’Conner, Kelly Barnhardt, John McRoberts, Art Mazza and Greg Schmidt.
The parish also recognized local businesses for helping make the garden possible, calling them “the engine who made it possible,” including Rock Hill Concrete (Mike Buskirk), Joswick Concrete (Kevin Joswick), Jago Contracting (Phil Jago), Pro ViaStone, Sika Corporation (Mike DeCandio) and Plant-It-Earth Tree Farm (Kelly Barnhardt).
