Tamaqua school board - personnel

The Tamaqua Area School Board continues to fill vacancies left by a mass of teacher retirements this year.

The board hired five elementary teachers — Gianna Granick of Tamaqua, Rylee Wenzel of New Ringgold and Ashley Pleban of Weatherly, all at $50,221; Ashley Schuler of Tamaqua, salary to be determined; and Ashley C. Brennan of Pottsville, at $52,021.

Other teacher hires included: Anna Hanley, Barnesville, English language arts teacher, $58,709; Jennifer Novotney of Freeland, also English language arts, at $65,234; and Allison Kline, Barnesville, music teacher, at $75,465.

The board also approved the retirement of Edward Mariano, science teacher, at the end of the school year.

Other personnel moves included:

• Hiring Michael Schaeffer of Tamaqua as a full-time custodian at $12.50 an hour, and these substituted custodians: Ceclia Ulicny, Jennifer Cerimele and Giada Cerimele, all of Tamaqua, at $12,78 an hour.

• Rescinding the motion approving Brittany Hill as middle school Sixth Sense and Ace adviser and approve Hill and Michael Murphy as co-advisers for both.

• Approving these extended school year staff: Sherri Gerber, teacher, $2,500 stipend, and paraprofessionals Susan Zehner, Lillain Birkmier and Zachary Dannenfelser, at the current hourly rates.

• Approving summer school staff: Millini Skuba, S. Gerber, Joe Curcio, Lyn Deiter, Maria Campomizi, Amanda Woodring, Aaron Fill, Connie Segedy, Michael Ouly, Sarah Hollenback, Lauren Ahner, Alisa Keemmerer, Stewart Caladie, MaryAnn Herring, Gina Morgan, Sarah Geronimo, Charise Fiorilla and Sarah Jacob, all teachers, and Nancy Phillips, nurse, all at $2,500 stipend.

• Approving B. Hill as middle school mathematics department chair.
