The Jim Thorpe Lions and Lioness put on a variety show this past weekend that organizer John Drury called a win-win situation.

Combining with a host of talented local musicians, vocalists and dancers, the two service organizations joined to raise money for David and Kathy Westrip, Jim Thorpe, who will attend the Pennsylvania Lions Beacon Lodge Camp for the blind and visually-impaired, and for David Formica, an 11-year-old Jim Thorpe boy who was diagnosed with leukemia last fall.

Held in the ballroom of the Mauch Chunk Museum and Cultural Museum in Jim Thorpe, the show was a successful fundraiser in that it raised enough money for the Westrip’s two-week stay at the camp, where they will perform as well as act as counselors, and to help Formica and his family with medical expenses.

It was also a great “fun raiser,” providing music and laughs and a genuinely entertaining evening.
