Local Roundup: Results from April 30
Northern Lehigh’s baseball team clinched a district playoff berth with a win over Lehighton on Thursday.
Palmerton also won on the diamond, as did Panther Valley and Weatherly’s softball teams and the Pleasant Valley girls lacrosse squad.
BASEBALL
Northwestern-Palmerton
Palmerton won its fourth straight game by posting a 7-1 Colonial League victory over Northwestern.
Three Blue Bomber pitchers — Robbie George, Gaige McGowan and Brady Reph — combined on a six-hitter and allowed the Tigers just one run.
Reph and Cameron Pengelly both had two hits and scored two runs, with Reph also adding an RBI. George added a pair of hits and knocked in two runs, while Greyson Ahner contributed a two-run single.
Northwestern’s Jake Carson collected a pair of hits. Lucian Sterling worked three walks and scored his team’s only run.

Lehighton-Northern Lehigh
Northern Lehigh punched its ticket to the district playoffs, as the Bulldogs earned a 5-2 Colonial League victory over Lehighton.
After falling behind early, Nolehi scored three times in the second inning and never trailed again.
Chris Vargas collected two hits for the winners, including a fifth-inning RBI single. Pablo Rivera added a hit and two runs, while Coy Daubert finished with two RBIs.
Parker Schaffer went the distance on the mound, striking out eight. He also added a hit and an RBI.
The Indians’ Chase Llewellyn ended with a pair of hits, while Aidan Solt and Cole Dietz each had a hit and a run.

East Stroudsburg South defeated Pleasant Valley 9-1 in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference action.
Aidan Cruz paced the Cavaliers with two singles, a run scored and three RBIs, while Alex Perez added a single, double, two runs and an RBI.
Chase Borger and Braydon Green both had two singles to account for all four PV hits.

In Schuylkill League play, North Schuylkill knocked off Tamaqua 12-3.
Stephen Minahan struck out 12, and allowed just two hits and no earned runs in 5 2/3 innings to earn the win.
Aaron Brayford had three singles, scored twice and knocked in a run for the Spartans. Mark Monahan added a pair of hits and scored three times.
For the Raiders, Quinn Coleman and Luke Frohnheiser had their two hits. The duo broke up a no-hitter with back-to-back singles in the fourth.

Jorge Sullivan pitched a five-inning no-hitter as Nativity gained a 9-0 Schuylkill League victory over Weatherly.
Sullivan struck out three and walked two.
Offensively, the Hilltoppers received doubles from six different players. Stephen Karnich had one of them and finished with two hits, two runs and three RBIs.
Ryan Examitas had a two-base hit, and knocked in a pair of runs for the winners.
The Wreckers received walks from both Noah Mayernick and Emilio Valenzuela.

Panther Valley-Lourdes
Panther Valley broke out for five runs in the third inning to take the lead and pull away from Lourdes for a 7-1 Schuylkill League victory.
Isabella D’Ancona provided the biggest punch for the Panthers with a bases-clearing double, with those three RBIs leading the team.
Ava Alabovitz struck out five, while only allowing one run on one hit, and also provided two RBIs.

Weatherly-Nativity
Weatherly scored nine runs in the second inning and cruised to a 19-3 Schuylkill League win over Nativity.
Six different Wreckers finished with multi-RBI performances. Maci Kane and Rebecca Caldwell both hit inside-the-park home runs and each had three RBIs.
Aisha Zuberi also knocked in three runs, while Abby Weston, Madison Makowiec and Abby Binder all collected two RBIs.

In a back-and-forth affair, East Stroudsburg South outlasted Pleasant Valley 7-6 in an EPC matchup.
Mia Battaglino launched a two-run home run in the second inning to give the Bears a 4-3 lead. The Cavaliers responded in the bottom half with three runs.
Maddie Abbatiello cut PV’s deficit to one in the seventh with an RBI single. However, Taylor Curey recorded the final out to go the distance and preserve South’s win.

North Schuylkill powered its way to victory with four home runs to take down Tamaqua 13-0 in Schuylkill League play.
Three of the four Spartan homers came in the fourth from Gianna Capone, Mallorie Croker and Lyza Holmes. The fourth homer came from Jordanna Frie in the sixth.
The Raiders only managed one hit, which came from Abby Whitehead in the third.

Brielle Halamar reached 100 career points with a seven-point outing (four goals and three assists) to help Pleasant Valley run away from Northampton 15-3.
Rylee Rath led the Bears in scoring once again, totaling eight goals and an assist.
PV’s Evelyn VanDerheyden and Peyton Knecht each chipped in with two assists.

Pleasant Vy.-Stroudsburg
Pleasant Valley picked up several strong individual performances on Wednesday despite falling to Stroudsburg in EPC action.
The Mountaineers earned a 122-28 victory in the boys meet, and a 99-50 win on the girls side.
On the boys’ side, Nathan Thompson led the way with a win in the 110-meter hurdles, while James Morton added a runner-up finish in the 800 and Isaiah Denis placed second in the 1600. The Bears also got field contributions from both Nicholas Bruckman and Cole Vanderah, who finished second and third, respectively, in the discus.
For the girls, the Bears earned a victory in the 400 relay, and Alexandra DePalma cleared 10-6 to win the pole vault. Sarah Montgomery and Madelyn Mackey both turned in strong sprint performances, while Josie Fetterman and Sophia Spiegel added runner-up and third-place finishes in the 400.
