April 24, 2015 — Times News area athletes win six events at the annual Allentown School District Invitational. Pleasant Valley leads the way with three firsts, two of them from Jen Mickens. The PV standout takes the 800 in 2:25.16 and sets a new school record of 5:13.64 to capture the 1600. Khai Samuels gives the Bears a sweep of the 800 as he crosses the line in 1:57.95. Palmerton’s Sean Doherty claims the 300 hurdles in 41.39, while Lehighton’s Tyler Crum betters the field in the long jump with a mark of 23-0. Also earning gold is Northwestern’s 3200 girls relay team of Sabrina Mertz, Carly Pierce, Sarah Segan and Abbie Smith, who turn in a winning time of 9:53.52.
