Lansford woman charged after dog attack

A Lansford woman faces multiple charges after her dog attacked and killed two other dogs in late March and early April.

Borough police filed charges against Brianna Koschak, 36, at District Judge Beth Dodson’s office this month. They include: failure to keep a dog quarantined, failure to control a dangerous dog; failure to have a dog vaccinated and failing to have dog license.

A preliminary hearing on the charges is scheduled May 27 before Dodson.

According to court papers, police were called to the area of 36 W. Ridge St. for a report of a dog that attacked two smaller dogs and a child on April 1.

Police found one dog with a large cut to its stomach and its intestines exposed, and the other with a large cut to a rear leg, court papers said.

Police spoke to one of Koschak’s children, who said that her brother got angry and let the dog out on purpose, and that the dog did not bite her, but dragged her as she attempted to keep it from the other dogs, court papers said.

Koschak arrived shortly afterward and said the dog ran out of the house when the door was opened by mistake, court papers said.

Then, Koschak’s significant other, who was very upset, told police that he didn’t know what to do with the dog, which is friendly to humans and male dogs, but has been going after female dogs lately.

The man told police that Koschak lied about the how the dog got out, and that she decided to let the kids take the dog for a walk, even though she was told the dog needed to be in a cage, court papers said.

On March 28, Koschak’s two children took the dog for a walk, which resulted in the dog running from them, and attacking and killing another dog, court papers said.

Koschak was advised the dog had to be quarantined and what the procedures were, court papers said.
