Palmerton students update on sports, clubs

Editor’s note: Palmerton High School journalism students are providing periodic updates of events at the school.

Palmerton High School Baseball player, Cameron Pengelly, recently reached a career high with 15 strikeouts against the Tamaqua Raiders.

Further aiding the team in their fight against the Raiders, Ben Negley hit a home run. Pengelly and Negley’s impressive performances led his team to victory, making their win-loss record 5-2.

Palmerton’s tennis coach, Jen Danzeisen has been making her mark with her team’s strong performance in the colonial league. Currently, the team is 5-0.

The seniors, Anderson Garcia, Hadlee Lake, Andrea Bettini, Kevin O’Neil, Colton Ruzicka, and Bryce Willis, have been a strong asset to the team.

As of the date of writing this article the tennis team has a pregame match against Notre Dame Green Pond on 4/7.

A spectacular start of the season for the Palmerton High School Softball team, with a 5-0 record.

At their recent game against Catasauqua, Palmerton completely stole the show with a final score of 15-0.

The team is currently ranked number 10 in the state. This year’s seniors are Mackenzie Ferber, Tessa Sander, Grace Schneider, and Hailey Barry.

Palmerton Area High School will be partaking in the Pennsylvania FBLA State Conference, or Future Business Leaders of America.

The conference in which Palmerton will be sending 58 of its own students too, will take place in Hershey Pennsylvania with the park being open to all participants on April 12-15.

Palmerton is part of Region 21 of FBLA which is the third largest in the state.

During the conference, most of the testing which makes up the state conference will take place Monday. Tuesday will be the final round and any second rounds needed. The final night is Thursday which will distribute awards.

The Palmerton Area School is expecting to have at least one or two students qualify for nationals, which will take place in San Antonio Texas, June 29-July 2.

Food will be provided, with meals including Hamburgers, BBQ Chicken, Pasta and more. This is also when the school will be awarded with any earned accolades.

Traditionally, Palmerton students support a long history of success often placing very high in comparison to other schools.

Last year, 19 Palmerton students placed.
