L. Tow. approves PASD project

Lower Towamensing Township has granted its consent on an estimated $15 million construction project in the Palmerton Area School District.

On a unanimous measure, supervisors on Tuesday granted conditional preliminary/final plan approval to the Palmerton Area School District land development.

The township’s planning commission last month recommended preliminary and final conditional approval.

The project consists of a two-story addition to Palmerton Area High School complete with a secured entrance, five new teaching spaces and renovated administrative offices, along with a separate, 11,000-square-foot district administration building to be constructed on the lawn west of the high school gymnasium.

Also on Tuesday, supervisors granted the following waivers, as recommended by the planning commission:

• A land development be first submitted as a preliminary plan.

• Final security, including a construction cost estimate approved by the township, was required to be secured with the township before final plan approval.

• Inlet boxes must conform to PennDOT standards for roadway construction.

• Minimum allowable drainage conveyance pipe must be 15 inches in diameter.
