Carbon County’s election department has seen a lot of changes over the last few months.
Most recently, after announcing the departure of the election director and welcoming back former director Lisa Dart, the county approved the resignation of Daphne C. Gasker of Jim Thorpe and the promotion of Christine M. Powers of Albrightsville from voter registration specialist to the new assistant director position.
Commissioners’ Chairman Mike Sofranko said that the office is continuing to “move forward and implement adjustments that need to be made.”
“We all know there had been issues and we’re looking to constantly correct them and continue to move forward ... All I know is that the three commissioners sitting here, we have one common goal and that is to have the most transparent legal election that follows the rules set forth by the state of Pennsylvania come May and November.”
He said that while the office has seen changes, including having an open position, it has employees who are prepared for the upcoming election.
In addition, Sofranko said that the election office is currently gathering a list of people interested in being a poll worker.

For anyone new who is working the polls, a training will be provided ahead of the primary.
