Local Roundup: Results from April 8

Pleasant Valley posted three wins on Wednesday, downing Dieruff in both baseball and softball while defeating East Stroudsburg South in tennis action.

Lehighton’s tennis team also picked up a victory.

BASEBALL

Pleasant Valley-Dieruff

Ty Borger twirled a one-hitter and struck out 10 to lead Pleasant Valley to a 12-2 EPC rout of winless Dieruff.

Braydon Green drove in four runs with three hits for the Bears, who broke a three-game losing streak. Green’s RBI single in the first put PV on the board.

After the Huskies took a 2-1 advantage, the Bears retook the lead with a four-run second inning, helped by two Dieruff errors.

Chase Borger had a double, knocked in a run and drew three of Pleasant Valley’s 12 walks. The Bears also stole eight bases. Green, Jake Loch and Owen Walters each had two.

Palmerton-Saucon Vy.

Noah Hubert fired a two-hit shutout and struck out 10 to lead Saucon Valley to a 4-0 Colonial League victory over Palmerton.

The Panthers broke a scoreless game when Elijah Szachtianshyn laced an RBI single in the fifth inning. Saucon Valley added a pair of runs in the sixth, and a solo run in the seventh.

The Bombers’ Brady Reph went six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits and striking out seven. Jason Carrelli and Greyson Ahner had Palmerton’s two hits.

A big offensive game from Lane Yoder helped Schuylkill Haven earn a 14-4 Schuylkill League victory over visiting Marian.

The Hurricanes’ shortstop collected two hits, scored three runs and had three RBIs.

Haven, which scored 10 runs in the first two innings, received a pair of hits and three runs from winning pitcher Alan Evans.

For the Colts, Chase Quinn-Gutsie hit a two-run homer. Jimmy Cannon added a hit, a run and an RBI.

Pleasant Valley-Dieruff

Emma DePalma had three hits and three RBIs to help propel Pleasant Valley to a 13-0 shutout of Dieruff.

Ally Pfancook smacked a two-run homer in the second as part of a six-run inning.

Lila Borger, Emma George, and Maddie Abbatiello, who started the game, each had two RBIs.

Bella Altemose had two triples and a double, and Emily Fox added a pair of hits for the Bears, who snapped a six-game losing skid. Chelsea Henry and Rylee Green each knocked in a run.

Green went three innings in relief, allowing three hits, striking out four, and walking none.

Southern Lehigh had little trouble in gaining its seventh straight victory, cruising to a 15-0 shutout over Lehighton in Colonial League play.

Lily Kelly, who smacked a three-run homer during a four-run second inning for the Spartans, finished the game with three hits and five RBIs.

Delaney Young scattered four hits with two strikeouts in her four innings of work.

The Indians’ Amber Yeakle had a double, while Brynn Mriss, Sophia Wise and Ava Tkach each singled.

Scherer scattered six hits and allowed just the one run, walking one while striking out nine. She also added a hit and two RBIs at the plate.

Danica Snyder added a pair of hits, one a triple, and knocked in two runs.

For the Fillies, Malina Letcher had two hits and Emily Upanavage contributed a hit and an RBI.

Bekim Cokrilja and Jed Cordes both captured wins in singles action for the Indians.

Lehighton also got victories from the doubles teams of Allie Conrad/Phillip Ebbert and Mia Nothstein/Kyra Shorten.

Lehighton-Palmerton

Lehighton and Palmerton split Wednesday’s Colonial League meet.

The Indian boys posted a decisive 115 1/5-34 1/2 decision, while the Bomber girls pulled out a narrow 76-74 victory.

Sawyer Hoffman and Owen Eckhart were triple winners for Lehighton in the boys meet. Hoffman was impressive in the sprints, taking the 100, 200 and 400, while Eckhart excelled in the jumps, claiming the long, triple and high jumps.

The Tribe also received a pair of individual wins from both Equan Warner (both hurdles) and Bodie Hawk (shot put, discus).

The Palmerton girls were led by Ruby Walters, who won both hurdling events.

Lehighton’s Lilyana Shapiro took first in three races (100, 200, 400).
