Palmerton’s historic Horse Head Inn has been sold to the First National Bank of Palmerton.

Geza E. Holczman, president of the bank said the bank has employed architects to prepare studies and designs for a new banking facility at the site.

It was reported unofficially the inn will be demolished to make way for a drive-in bank.

The inn, which had been owned by the New Jersey Zinc Company, officially closed on July 15, 1970.

The inn’s construction began in 1900 and was completed the following year. An advertisement outside the building in its early days read, “with electric lights and hot and cold running water.”
