Local Roundup: Results from April 6
Jim Thorpe received a strong performance from Kaden Hess in a win Monday against Pen Argyl.
Lehighton and Pleasant Valley also picked up wins in tennis action.
BASEBALL
Pen Argyl-Jim Thorpe
Kaden Hess had himself quite a day in leading Jim Thorpe to a 12-2 Colonial League victory over visiting Pen Argyl.
Hess gained the pitching win, allowing five hits and no earned runs while striking out six in six innings. At the plate, he finished 4-for-4 with two RBIs.
The Olympians, who jumped out to a 7-0 lead after two innings, also received plenty of other offensive support. Cole Lazorick collected three hits, scored twice and knocked in two runs, while Brody Schrantz contributed a pair of hits — one a double — in addition to scoring twice and adding three RBIs.
Michael Antignani, Zack Murphy, Lee Edwards and Nathan Frantz all had two hits as Thorpe pounded out 20 in the contest.

Pleasant Valley-Nazareth
Ryan Petruska pitched a one-hit shutout to lead Nazareth to a 10-0 EPC victory over visiting Pleasant Valley.
Petruska walked two and struck out nine in the five-inning contest. The only hit he gave up was a first-inning double to PV’s Braydon Green.
The Blue Eagles were led offensively by Ethan Strawn, who collected two hits, scored a pair of runs and had two RBIs. Petruska also helped his own cause with two hits and three RBIs.

SOFTBALL
Pleasant Valley-Nazareth
Pleasant Valley raced to an early lead, but Nazareth stormed back to capture a 19-7 EPC victory.
Maddie Abbatiello slugged two homers in the first two innings to help the Bears grab a 7-0 start. Abbatiello connected for a three-run shot in the first, and a two-run blast in the second.
The Blue Eagles, however, went ahead with a five-run third inning and then used longballs from Taylor Friel and Gianna Perillo to pull away later in the game.
Perillo finished with three hits and six RBIs, while Makayla Ork added three hits and scored four times.
PV also received three hits, two of them doubles, and two runs from Emily DePalma.

BOYS TENNIS
Pottsville-Lehighton
Lehighton ended a four-match losing skid with a 5-0 victory over visiting Pottsville.
The Indians’ Bekim Cokrilja won at No. 1 singles in straight sets without dropping a game.
Jed Cordes and Phillip Ebbert added three-set wins in the other singles matches, while both Lehighton doubles teams were victorious in straight sets.
