Kunkletown Thrift Store hosts annual prom dress sale

The excitement is building as the eighth annual Kunkletown Thrift Store prom dress sale approaches, offering an incredible selection of over 600 beautiful gowns for local students.

Donna Deihl, director of the sale, announced the details of the highly anticipated event, emphasizing the community’s spirit.

“This is the eighth year. We have over 600 gowns to offer,” Deihl said. To participate, students need only present a student ID. Each student is allowed to purchase two dresses, all priced at just $10 each. Additionally, a variety of shoes, handbags and clutches will be available to complement the ensembles. Notably, students from any school district are welcome to join. The dresses are $10 with individual, pieces as low as $5.

Reflecting on last year’s success, Deihl recalled, “Last year we had a bus pull in, and I’m pretty sure it was from Pocono Mountain.”

The event aims to invite every school district, ensuring that all students can find a beautiful outfit for their prom night.

The efforts leading up to the event have been tremendous, “Donna has gone to bridal salons and even as far as Scranton and back, looking for gowns,” said Peri Marando, commending Deihl’s dedication. She, along with volunteers Dee Barlip, Vivian Smith and Ann Marie Haydt, has actively helped ensure that every girl receives a dress that makes her feel special.

In the last two weeks alone, Deihl and her husband, Chip, have collected over 600 dresses and gowns, showcasing styles for every preference and body type. The selection includes both new and gently used gowns, meticulously organized and ready for eager students.

The Kunkletown Thrift Store, which champions the initiative, provides a wide array of styles, including short and long dresses, vibrant prints and accessories to complete the look. Interested students can view the available styles by visiting the Kunkletown Thrift Store’s Facebook page.

The event not only emphasizes the beauty of community involvement but also aims to ensure that every student can enjoy their prom night without the financial burden often associated with formal wear. The Kunkletown Thrift Store Prom Dress Sale event starts on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The store is located at 516 Kunkletown Road, Kunkletown.
