Palmerton dog park is back open

After a several week closure due to vandalism, the dog park in the West End of Palmerton is once again open.

Councilman Andrew Hollywood announced at Thursday’s borough council meeting that the dog park is open for business.

Hollywood then thanked borough manager Autumn Canfield for her work in the matter.

Before reopening, the dog park had been closed until further notice due to vandalism.

That wasn’t the only time that the park at Alley J, above portions of the 800 and 900 blocks of Edgemont Avenue, was closed.

In March 2024, the park reopened after it has been closed since mid-January of that year.

The park was off limits during that time period.

Canfield said at that time one of its proponents called the borough about concerns with water running through with the rain and the snow and the frozen ground.

She said the borough was merely trying to preserve the dog park for that season so that it would stay nice for spring.
