Emergency personnel were put to the test Thursday afternoon when they worked to extricate a victim of an accident in West Penn township. The crash occurred around 2:30 p.m. when the driver traveling north on Route 309 atop the Ridge Cup lost control, and veered to the right, over the lawn and down a steep embankment.
Members of the West Penn fire company and Tamaqua Rescue Squad as well as West Penn police climbed down the steep slope and worked well over an hour to free the victim. West Penn police are investigating the incident.
