Blueprint Community plans cleanup

The Panther Valley Blueprint Community is preparing to clean up its area to make it more inviting as motorists drive through the four municipalities that comprise the Panther Valley.

To help promote the upcoming event, Nesquehoning recently adopted a proclamation formally recognizing April 25 as Panther Valley Clean-up Day.

Abbie Guardiani, a member of the Blueprint Community, said that the cleanup is the part of the beginning of its five-year plan.

“When anybody comes into town, it is so important because as we always say, ‘if you see trash on the highway and you see garbage and crappy fronts of homes, then what does that look at for people?’ ” she said.

“Lack of pride, lack of ownership. That we don’t care. The cleanup is huge because we are literally going to go from one end of Coaldale to the borough line with Jim Thorpe.”

But there is one thing Guardiani said the group still needs to make the upcoming event a success — volunteers.

“It’s going to happen but we need help. We need a lot of volunteers,” she said, noting that any resident, as well as church groups, organizations or school groups are welcome to participate. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

The Blueprint Community has partnered with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and several businesses and organizations to provide supplies for those helping with the cleanup.

“We would love for everybody to show up, take pride in your town,” Guardiani said. “Let’s clean up the Panther Valley and put our best face forward.”

The event will take place on April 25, beginning at 9 a.m. at designated areas.

The group’s goal is to collect at least 80 bags of trash from the main roads of routes 902 and 209 that connect Coaldale, Summit Hill, Lansford and Nesquehoning.

Volunteers who take part are then invited back to Panther Valley High School for a luncheon.

For those interested in helping with the cleanup, they are asked to email Contact@PVBlueprint.org and include their name, phone number and email address and a registration form will be sent to you.
