Tamaqua MS concert Thursday

The Tamaqua Area Middle School Music Department will present its annual Spring Choral Concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Tamaqua Area Auditorium.

The concert will feature performances by the middle school sixth, seventh and eighth grade General Chorus, and the seventh and eighth grade Select Chorus.

The General Chorus will start the show with “The Star Spangled Banner” to honor America on its 250 anniversary. The Bruno Mars song of friendship, “Count On Me,” is the next selection. “Take Me Home Country Roads,” a classic pop song by John Denver is next, and the General Chorus will close with the inspirational song “Be a Light” written by country superstar Thomas Rhett.

A select group of students from the Tamaqua High School Jazz and Concert Chorale will make a special guest appearance at the concert to perform “Wanting Memories,” a song of remembrance.

The seventh and eighth grade Select Chorus takes the stage next and will sing “Amani Utupe,” a song inspired by an African prayer. The Select Chorus will also pay tribute to America with “America the Beautiful.” Soloist Belle Hascin will sing the Scottish folk song “Skye Boat Song.” The Select Chorus will close its portion of the concert with “Stay Gold” from the smash hit Broadway musical “The Outsiders.”

The choirs will combine to sing “Climb Higher.”

The middle school choirs are under the direction of John Buglio.

The concert is free and open to the public. Doors to the auditorium will open at 6:45 p.m.
