A pipeline that travels under Cumberland Avenue near the intersection of Route 54 in the village of Hometown will be moved this spring.
As work gets underway, some roads will be closed, Rush Township officials said.
At a recent meeting, township supervisors approved an easement agreement regarding the pipeline with Energy Transfer/Sunoco.
The company plans to move the pipeline “slightly” to the east of where it is now, Chairman George Gerhard said.
According to township engineer William McMullen of ARRO Consulting, work will begin in mid- to late April. He said that when crews recently paved Route 54, they didn’t add blacktop to the portion of Route 54 where the pipeline lies.
“It was too shallow,” he said of the pipe’s location. “They are going to drop it down and repave it.”
McMullen said Cumberland Avenue from Pine to Oxford streets will be closed for about three months for the work.
“They said that they can probably get it done in six to eight weeks,” he noted.
When work begins, there will be a daylong closure from Wyoming Street to Route 54.
