Local Roundup: Results from March 24

Northwestern’s baseball and softball teams both posted walk-off wins on Tuesday.

The Tigers also received a victory from their boys lacrosse squad.

Pleasant Valley also gained wins in both baseball and softball.

BASEBALL

Bangor-Northwestern

In a tightly contested Colonial League matchup, Cannon Fitch delivered a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh for Northwestern to break a scoreless tie and walk off Bangor 1-0.

An old-fashioned pitcher’s duel highlighted the contest. Cole Dynda hurled a gem for the Tigers going six and two-thirds innings, striking out 10 while only allowing four hits and one walk.

Griffith Unrath came in relief of Dynda to complete the shutout.

Owen Mera was impressive for the Slaters in defeat, racking up six punchouts and giving up only three hits and two walks in six scoreless frames.

Wilson-Lehighton

Wilson outlasted Lehighton in a Colonial League slugfest, posting an 11-8 victory.

The Warriors put up a six-spot in the third, highlighted by a two-run single from Nolan Browne, to take a 7-1 lead.

The Indians responded with six runs over the next three innings, including Logan Bellis with a two-run single in the third to start the rally and a sacrifice fly from Landon Abelovsky in the fifth, to tie the score at seven.

Wilson punched back in the sixth to retake the lead on a single by Wyatt Deemer, scoring two runs. Two more Warrior runs in the seventh secured the win for the visitors.

Moravian-Palmerton

Jason Carrelli went 3-for-3 and collected five RBIs to help lead Palmerton to a decisive 12-2 Colonial League win over Moravian Academy.

Carrelli knocked in two of his runs in the second as part of a six-run frame for the Bombers. Two of his three hits were doubles.

Brady Reph earned the win for Palmerton, going two scoreless innings and striking out four batters. He also had a hit and scored three runs.

Williams Valley-Marian

Williams Valley stormed back from an early five-run deficit to gain a 9-7 Schuylkill League win over Marian.

After Jonathan Derr hit a two-run home run in the sixth to extend the Colts’ lead to 5-0, the Vikings scored seven times in the seventh, including two on a single from Gavin Deiter, to take the lead.

Marian tied the score at seven in the bottom frame, only for Williams Valley to retake the lead in the eighth.

Chase Grier did his job on the bump for the Colts, going six innings and striking out four while allowing three runs on three hits and one walk.

Sam Smale and Mason Goff combined to throw a shutout for Pleasant Valley, blanking East Stroudsburg North 6-0 in EPC action.

The Bears struck early, scoring two in the first and adding three in the third, courtesy of a two-run single from Goff to help his cause.

Jake Loch chipped in with a hit and two runs for the winners.

Paul Smith went 3-for-4 and knocked in four runs to lead Notre Dame to a 10-5 Colonial League victory over Northern Lehigh.

John Hull picked up the win for the Crusaders, giving up only one unearned run on two hits and three walks.

Coy Daubert was a bright spot for the Bulldogs, driving in three runs with a double in the seventh.

Frankie Russo and Tyler Bensinger combined to allow two hits to blank Panther Valley 10-0 in Schuylkill League action.

Leading 5-0, the Eagles put up five runs in the sixth to complete the victory.

Nine different Blue Mountain players scored runs, with Riley Sebastian ending with one hit and two of the runs.

PV’s hits came from Danny Wehr and Spence Schirer.

Shenandoah Valley rolled to a dominating 13-0 win over Weatherly in Schuylkill League play.

Nine different Blue Devils had hits, and eight of them contributed at least one RBI, including Dylan Gerz who hit a three-run triple.

Haden Kechula shut the Wreckers down, as he struck out seven while giving up only three hits and three walks. The Wreckers’ hits came from Ray Montz, Niko Suarez and Eli Brown.

Northwestern-Bangor

Emma Freeman hit a home run to center field in the bottom of the eighth to push Northwestern past Bangor, 6-5, in eight innings.

Freeman also pitched all eight frames for the Tigers, allowing seven hits with three strikeouts and four walks.

Sam Boyer blasted a three-run homer during the Tigers’ five-run seventh inning that tied the game after Bangor erupted for four runs in the top of the inning. Ainsley Behler added a pair of hits for Northwestern.

Blue Mountain plated nine runs in the first inning, and the Eagles remained unbeaten after soaring to a 20-0 Schuylkill League victory over Panther Valley.

Avery Hudak had three RBIs, and Emmerson Frie and Addyson Fishburn each had two RBIs for Blue Mountain. Emily Leonard allowed one hit and struck out 10 for the Eagles.

Caroline Breslin had the lone hit for Panther Valley, which committed eight errors.

Amber Yeakel drove in six runs to help lead Lehighton to its first victory of the season, outslugging Wilson 21-11 in Colonial League play.

Yeakel delivered a bases-clearing double as part of the Indians’ eight-run third inning. Sophia Wise, who had three hits, smacked a two-run double to highlight the Tribe’s eight-run second inning.

Brynn Mriss, who started the game for Lehighton, and Ava Searfoss each added two hits.

Bella Altemose belted a pair of home runs and drove in four runs to lift Pleasant Valley to an 18-2 EPC victory over East Stroudsburg North.

Lila Borger also had four RBIs with two hits.

Mia Battaglia, Rylan Knapp and Rylee Green each finished with two hits and knocked in three runs. Isabelle Hoffman and Emma George both had a pair of hits.

Weatherly opened up a tight game with a nine-run fourth inning, and the Wreckers went on to a 15-2 Schuylkill League victory over Shenandoah Valley.

Olivia Morasco had a bases-clearing double, and Madison Makowiec added a two-run double in the fourth.

Rebecca Caldwell added three hits and three RBIs, while Abby Weston scored four runs and stole two bases.

Abby Binder went the distance for Weatherly, striking out 12, walking three and allowing two hits.

Olivia Hand, who drove in five runs for the Vikings, put Williams Valley on the board in the first with a two-run homer. Hand added a two-run blast in the third. Ella Kobularik also had three hits for the Vikings.

Hailey Treskolasky and Malia Letcher each had two hits and two RBIs for the Fillies, while Emily Upanavage added a pair of hits.
