Tamaqua OKs principals, personnel

The Tamaqua Area School Board approved principals for the next school year as it continues to reset its administrative roles and approved several retirements Tuesday night.

The latest appointments include Tamaqua Area Elementary Principal Lisa Shirvinski as middle school principal; West Penn Elementary Principal Frank D’Agostino as Tamaqua Elementary principal; and Tara Orefice, who oversees Pupil Services, as West Penn Elementary principal.

The previous announcement that Superintendent Ray Kinder would retire summer set in motion administrative changes that have included Assistant Superintendent Dr. Stephen Toth as incoming superintendent, and high school Principal Tom McCabe as incoming assistant superintendent.

Last month, the board appointed Middle School Principal Christopher Czapla as director of secondary education, a new position overseeing both the high school and middle school, and Special Education Director James Hahn as high school principal.

The board set the salaries for Shirvinski at $106,285.56; and D’Agostino at $102,369. McCabe will receive a $13,000 stipend.
