Nesquehoning seeks input on new park

Nesquehoning officials are seeking public input from residents regarding plans for a new community park on land recently acquired from Lehigh Carbon Community College.

A notice on the borough’s website states that the Hauto Village Community Park, which is located off Tonolli Road in the Village of Hauto, will include a dog park on a portion of the land.

Officials also hope “to create a safe, accessible and enjoyable space for residents and their dogs to exercise, socialize and gather as a community.”

To accomplish this, a survey has been created asking for resident input on what amenities and features people would like to see included.

Some suggestions within the survey include creating walking paths, pavilions and seating areas, open space or picnic areas, outdoor courts for sports, a playground and more.

“Your input will help make the Hauto Village Community Park a welcoming and vibrant destination for everyone in Nesquehoning Borough,” the announcement states.

Residents can find the survey online at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/G95Y8MB.

Nesquehoning began the process last year after Lehigh Carbon Community College offered the 40-acre site to the borough. It initially had been donated to the college by the Kovatch family for science class purposes.

When the borough received notice of the acquisition, plans started forming for creating an area that residents could utilize for outdoor activities.

Last month, borough council announced that the new park would be called the Hauto Village Community Park.
