Tamaqua pool work to start soon
Tamaqua Borough officials recently met with the contractors who will overhaul the community pool.
“We had a meeting up at the pool. It was our pre-construction meeting with the pool contractor,” borough Manager Kevin Steigerwalt told council Tuesday.
He noted that a start date for the H.D. Buehler Memorial Pool project at Bungalow Park hasn’t been set as of yet.
“But everything is starting to come together for the construction,” Steigerwalt said.
Most of the work will be completed by mid-October. Final completion is expected in April of 2027.
“That will be right before the start-up of the new season,” Steigerwalt said.
Multiscape Inc. will serve as general contractor, with Vincent Pools as the subcontractor
The borough received a $1.75 million grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources for the project. Since it will expire in the autumn, Steigerwalt will request an extension.
“It shouldn’t be an issue because we’ve been keeping them apprised of the project as it proceeds,” he said.
The base bid for the project came in at $3.66 million and the borough has about $3.2 million set aside thanks to grants from DCNR, J.E. Morgan Foundation and the federal Land and Water Conservation Fund.
With the bulk of the proposed project covered by grants, council recently decided to add extra features to the pool. Adding options such as a climbing wall, sundecks, special deck treatment and a competition package with lane lining would cost about $300,000 more.
Steigerwalt said he contacted the borough’s financial consultant, who will issue a request for proposal so the borough can borrow funds for the extra additions.
The pool will be closed for the season.
