Tamaqua Borough Council handled a number of police department items at its Tuesday meeting, including:
• Approved sending Sgt. Thomas Rodgers to defensive tactics instructor training in Harrisburg from May 18-22 at a cost of $995, and Cpl. Karl Harig to sexual assault investigation training in Reading on June 4 and 5 at a cost of $445.
• Hired Christopher Daynorowicz as a part-time police officer contingent upon his successful completion of police training.
• Will allow the sale of three police department firearms with a value of less than $2,000.
• Decertified the eligibility list prepared by the Civil Service Commission in August 2025.
• Requested the Civil Service Commission to conduct a police officer exam and prepare an eligibility list with at least three candidates.
• Council also approved a handicapped parking space application for 321 Market St. and voted to install “Autistic Child Area” signs in the 100 block of Washington Street.
