Tamaqua Area OKs energy audit contract

The Tamaqua Area School Board on Tuesday approved the McClure Company of Harrisburg to complete an investment-grade energy audit.

The firm was one of three to submit quotes/proposals last month for a $3 million infrastructure upgrade that could save the district $2 million in energy costs over the next 20 years.

The board also approved applying for a Public School Facility Improvement Grant for $103,251.50 and $129,799.50 for a match toward a middle school boiler and chiller under the project. The amounts represent 25% of the total cost.

The Tamaqua Area High School dismissed early Wednesday due to electrical issues in the building that affected the heating system, Superintendent Ray Kinder said.

The problems were repaired and classes resumed as usual on Thursday, he said.
