Letter to the editor: Not so fast Josh Shapiro

Josh Shapiro gave himself a makeover. According to Axios: Shapiro’s suits are more tailored and modern, but not flashy. He sometimes ditches a tie and swapped out his old glasses for a trendier, rectangular pair, and often wears sneakers.

Shapiro is going to need more than a makeover for his reelection as Democrat Governor of PA or for his 2028 Presidential run, for that matter. Exposing Josh Shapiro for who he really is tells you everything you need to know about him.

One thing most admirable about President Donald Trump is his core belief: A rising tide lifts ALL boats. President Donald Trump and the Republican Party have always supported school choice for our nation’s underserved children. Shapiro, unfortunately, doesn’t share the same core belief. Shapiro’s rising tide only lifts the boats of his own children. Let me explain.

When running for governor, Josh Shapiro promised to support school choice which gives children in financially disadvantaged, low-performing school districts a shot at a better education. Once elected, Shapiro reversed his stance. He betrayed PA voters and children by following the money, siding with the teachers’ unions instead. But he didn’t make the same choice for his own children. Shapiro’s four children attended his alma mater; a private, elite Jewish day school in the Delaware Valley where tuition ranges from $34,900 to $42,700 per student per year. Not many hard working PA families, who the Democrats claim to champion, can afford to pay for such luxurious tuitions.

Shapiro has not atoned for his dereliction of duty. The 2026-27 Pennsylvania budget explicitly excludes funding for school choice initiatives like private school vouchers and the previously proposed Lifeline Scholarships.

In closing, why would PA voters reelect a governor who has such little regard for the education of PA’s children? A worthy leader ensures ALL children receive the best education possible, not just their own children. Josh Shapiro has failed the children of PA, shattering the dreams of our most vulnerable. Voters, remember this in November.
