Jim Thorpe graduate Skyler Searfoss will be participating in the NCAA Division 2 Elite Eight on Tuesday after Holy Family recently won the East Regional championship.
The Tigers defeated Assumption 58-38 in the opening round of the regional before posting a 61-51 victory over Southern Connecticut State in the semifinals. Holy Family then downed Daemen University, which was ranked ninth in the country prior to the game, by a 78-62 score.
Searfoss and the Tigers will now meet IUP in the Elite Eight. The game will be played at the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse in Pittsburgh with a 2:30 p.m. tip-off.
The former Thorpe standout tallied 14 points in the win against Daemen, including making all eight of her free throw attempts.
In the Southern Connecticut contest, Searfoss scored a season-high 23 points, hitting 7-of-10 shots from the field and all seven foul shots. She also added four assists.
For the season, Searfoss is averaging 5.7 points per game and has a shooting percentage of .818 at the free-throw line (63-of-77). She lead the Tigers (30-4) with 136 assists.
