Tamaqua Drama Club honors WWI veterans

Members of the Tamaqua Area Drama Club will present “The Hello Girls” on Thursday, Friday and Saturday in the district auditorium.

As they do, they’ll honor and memorialize the lives of local World War I soldiers.

The musical tells the story of the first women in the U.S. Army, a group of telephone operators sent to the front lines in France during World War I to connect more than 26 million calls that aided the war effort.

Boys performing in the play will honor the lives of soldiers from places like Tamaqua, West Penn, Brockton, Barnesville, Lansford and Coaldale.

Most lost their lives in battle and remain buried in France.

The playbill includes information about each soldier, along with newspaper clippings and photos.

Eric Zizelmann of Tamaqua provided information about the soldiers.

Director Adriane Drum said it has been a solemn learning experience for all involved.

“The Hello Girls” takes the stage at 6 p.m. Thursday, and at 7 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday.
