State police at Fern Ridge - crashes
State police at the Fern Ridge barracks reported the following crashes:
• Wilber G. Gomez, 54, of Manville, New Jersey, and Rodrigo A. Valle Garcia, 30, of North Plainfield, New Jersey, was injured after a two-vehicle crash at 11:15 a.m. March 5 at the intersection of Sugar Hollow and Hawk Terrace in Chestnuthill Township.
Police said they were transported by personnel from the Lehigh Valley Health Network EMS corps to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Monroe Campus, Stroudsburg.
The crash occurred, police said, as Aneesa McLean, 24, of Saylorsburg, was driving a 2018 Subaru Crosstrek south on Hawk Terrace when she failed to yield the right of way and crossed into the westbound lane of Sugar Hollow Road occupied by a 2024 Freightliner Cascadia driven by Gomez. They said the rig struck a traffic sign, utility pole and rock wall before coming to rest.
Police said both vehicles were towed from the scene.
McLean was cited for driving while her operating privileges are suspended or revoked, police said.
• Police investigated a one-vehicle crash at 8:28 p.m. March 15 on Route 903 in Penn Forest Township.
They said Christian R. Renfrew, 37, of 22 Locust Drive, Jim Thorpe, was driving a 2017 Toyota Tacoma south when it exited the roadway and struck a tree.
The vehicle had disabling damage.
• Joseph J. Tracy, 40, of Effort, is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol following a one-vehicle crash at 4:22 p.m. Feb. 28 at the intersection of Toll Road and Mundy Lane, Chestnuthill Township.
Police said he was driving a 2019 Subaru Crosstrek northbound when it left the road and struck an embankment. They said Tracy overcorrected the vehicle, causing it to strike a second embankment.
Police said he fled the scene but was found shortly afterward at his residence, where he displayed numerous signs of impairment.
He was transported to the Monroe County Correctional Facility, Snydersville, for processing and released.
• Zachary J. Sheffy, 31, of Pine Grove, had injuries after a one-vehicle crash at 8:56 a.m. March 14 on Interstate 80 in Kidder Township.
Police said he was transported by personnel from the Lake Harmony Rescue Squad Ambulance to the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre.
They said he was driving a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 eastbound when it traveled off the road, went down an embankment and struck a tree.
The truck had disabling damage and was towed from the scene.
Sheffy was cited after the crash, according to police.
• No one was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 7:56 p.m. March 11 on Route 209 in Chestnuthill Township.
Police said the crash occurred as Thomas E. Harleman, 68, of Kresgeville, was driving a 2006 Ford Explorer westbound when it struck the rear of a 2021 Jeep Wrangler operated by Warren S. Spear, 58, of Ridgefield, Connecticut, after the latter had slowed because a vehicle stopped in front of him.
Police said the Explorer sustained heavy damage and was towed from the scene, while the Jeep had minor damage.
Harleman was cited for following too closely, according to police.
• Pamela A. Vandermartin, 47, of Weatherly, was injured after a one-vehicle crash at 5:42 a.m. Feb. 2 on Interstate 80 in Tunkhannock Township.
Police said she was transported by personnel from the Pocono Mountain Regional Emergency Medical Services to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Pocono Campus, East Stroudsburg.
They said she was driving a 2019 Dodge Challenger eastbound when it struck slush and ice, causing her to lose control of the car. It left the roadway and hit an embankment, resulting in disabling damage that required it to be towed from the scene.
