Intoxicated man strikes nurses at Carbon hospital; resists arrest

An Albrightsville man has been charged with hitting two nurses at the St. Luke’s Hospital Franklin campus while being highly intoxicated.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by Trooper Roberto Spezza of the Pennsylvania State Police, Lehighton barracks, in the case against Matthew Geehring, 25:

At 5:03 a.m. March 10, arrived on the scene and saw multiple St. Luke’s employees outside standing with Geehring.

When Geehring saw police, he began to run.

Police caught him and he resisted arrest but he was placed in the patrol car.

A nurse told police Geehring was a problem all night, as he was highly intoxicated and was giving employees a hard time.

The nurse related that Geehring wanted a cigarette and walked out of the hospital. She said he hit her in the chest and struck another nurse in the face.

Geehring faces charges on two counts each of aggravated assault, simple assault, and harassment, and one count each of resisting arrest/other law enforcement, and disorderly conduct engage in fighting.

He is currently incarcerated in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $25,000 monetary bail, and scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Wednesday before District Judge William J. Kissner of Palmerton.
