Carbon County Court -sentencings

Carbon County Judge Joseph J. Matika has accepted guilty pleas from five people charged by local police.

Joshua E. Makowiec, 43, of Weatherly, was charged by borough Police Officer Michael A. Eyer with aggravated assault, simple assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness in the borough on Nov. 29, 2025.

He pleaded guilty to the resisting arrest charge, and Matika sentenced him to two years of probation and to undergo a mental health evaluation.

He also ordered Makowiec to pay a $100 LiveScan fee and a monthly $50 supervision fee.

Jan Grover, 63, of Weatherly, was charged by borough Police Officer Joshua E. Silfee with driving under the influence-second offense; driving under the influence; careless driving; failing to notify police of accidental damage to a vehicle; disregarding traffic lanes and failing to stop and give information/render aid in the borough on Jan. 15, 2024.

Grover pleaded guilty to failing to stop and give information/ render aid. The remaining charges were dropped.

Matika fined Grover $25 and imposed a $100 LiveScan fee.

Tanya M. Faux, 53, of Cambridge Springs, Crawford County, was charged by Hazleton State Trooper Joshua M. Pavlick with giving false identification to a law enforcement officer; careless driving; disregarding traffic lanes; failing to use a safety belt; driving while her operating privileges were suspended or revoked; speeding and operating a vehicle without insurance in Packer Township on Aug. 12, 2025.

She pleaded guilty to the false identification charges; the remaining charges were dropped.

Matika sentenced her to serve from one to 12 months in state prison; pay restitution of $1,822.99 to one victim and $148.39 to another; pay a $100 LiveScan fee; undergo a drug and alcohol evaluation; perform 50 hours of community service; submit a DNA sample and pay the $250 fee.

In a separate case, Faux was charged by Weatherly Police Officer Ashley N. Harris with six counts of possession of a controlled substance; five counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a small amount of marijuana in the borough on Oct. 5, 2022.

She pleaded guilty to one count each of the controlled substance and paraphernalia charges. The remaining charges were dropped.

Matika sentenced Faux to six to 24 months in jail; ordered her to undergo a drug and alcohol evaluation and perform 50 hours of community service on the controlled substance charge. He sentenced her to one to 12 months in jail, to be served at the same time as her previous sentence, in addition to 50 hours of community service on the paraphernalia charge.

Matika also ordered Faux to pay a $100 LiveScan fee.

Alexis A. Cruz, 46, of Chester County, was charged by Lehighton State Trooper Peter Krajnak with possessing a small amount of marijuana and possessing drug paraphernalia in Bowmanstown on May 24, 2025.

She pleaded guilty to the marijuana possession charge. The remaining charge was dropped. Matika fined Cruz $150.

Kendra L. Crostley, 34, of Muncy, Lycoming County, was charged by Franklin Township Police Officer David M. Roberts with possession of a controlled substance; four counts of possession of drug paraphernalia; and one count of public drunkenness in the township on Oct. 14, 2025.

She pleaded guilty to the paraphernalia charge. The remaining charges were dropped.

Matika sentenced Crostley to one year of probation, to be served at the same time as another sentence she’s serving, and to undergo a drug and alcohol evaluation. She was also ordered to pay a $100 LiveScan fee and a monthly $50 supervision fee.
