Here’s a look at how our area legislators voted in House and Senate matters in Harrisburg:

Senate Bill 1014

The legislation aims to require schools to adopt and implement a policy that prohibits the use of phones during the school day.

Exceptions would be made for students with medical conditions or individualized education plans that require the use of a personal communication device.

If enacted, Pennsylvania would join 27 states in restricting these devices including New York, Virginia, and Florida.

House Bill 1738

The bill provides boroughs specific powers in veterans’ affairs.

It provides for care and erection of memorials; in corporate powers relating to third class cities, providing for control, maintenance and repair of memorials; in veterans’ affairs relating to third class cities, further providing for care of memorials; in grounds and buildings.

The bill further provides for monuments, memorials and memorial halls to war veterans and for preservation, maintenance, repair and completion of public monuments; and making an editorial change.

Senate Bill 974

The bill would amend the Public School Code of 1949, in miscellaneous provisions relating to institutions of higher education, further providing for Dual Credit Innovation Grant Program.

Senate Bill 704

This bill would direct the Department of Community and Economic Development and the Department of Environmental Protection to work together to identify suitable sites for natural gas electric generation projects.

It is intended to assist in the shortfall of electric generation faced in the PJM Interconnection LLC (PJM) transmission system by helping to play a role in expediting the process of getting sites ready to attract investment to build.
