Local Roundup: Results from March 13

Pleasant Valley and Palmerton both picked up tennis wins on Friday, while the Northwestern boys lacrosse team also earned a victory.

BOYS TENNIS

Palmerton-Pottsville

Palmerton received straight-set wins from three of its singles players, as well as both doubles teams, to gain a 5-2 non-league victory over Pottsville in its season opener.

Levi Johnson, Colton Ruzicka and Chase Sebelin all triumphed for the Blue Bombers in singles action, with Johnson holding off Everett Walters in a tightly-contested match at No. 1.

Palmerton cruised to victory in doubles play, as the teams of Hadlee Lake and Andrea Bettini, and Matt Breiner and Helena Moyzan dominated their matches.

Pleasant won its first match of the season, blanking East Stroudsburg North 6-0 in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference action.

The trio of John Hargrave, Issac Klein and Liam Angell all won in straight sets for the Bears and also lost seven games in the process.

Jim Thorpe-Pen Argyl

Jim Thorpe dropped its season-opening match, falling to Colonial League foe Pen Argyl by a 5-0 score.

The Olympians’ doubles team of Alex Plesnarski and Jonas Lambert won a second-set battle to force a third, but lost in the deciding set.

Northampton

Kendall Wikert had four goals to help Northwestern edge Northampton 9-8 in a non-league matchup.

The Tigers, playing their season opener, also received three goals and an assist from Ty Kaas.

Grayson Christman added a pair of goals, while Trey Snyder and Braydon Uricchio each chipped in with an assist.

The winners also received five saves from goalie Dane Kauker.
