Lansford Borough Council
Lansford Borough Council conducted the following business:
• Advertised new committee meetings after a reshuffle of chairmen announced Wednesday. Councilwoman Michele Bartek now heads parks and recreation, and economic development/tourism/grant development, which will meet the first Tuesday of the month at 6 and 7 p.m., respectively.
• Rejected a meeting regarding TextMyGov notification service. The borough already has an emergency notification system. Councilman Jack Soberick pointed out that the borough had used Code Red emergency notification system at no cost.
• Tabled a request for four customer parking spaces for a restaurant on West Ridge Street. The borough engineer/zoning officer has no records on a new business.
• Approved a request for a bus stop in front of Kiddie Kapers on West Patterson Street.
• Approved a special event form for the American Fire Co. No. 1 for the Seventh Annual Food Truck Festival from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on May 9 in the unit block of West Bertsch Street.
• Tabled a request from Friends of Recreation for a fundraiser to park cars for Panther Valley home football games. Council members Bruce Markovich and Gwyneth Collevechio were opposed.
• Approved a handicapped parking request from Jennifer Jones at 232 W. Patterson St.
• Approved Dean Strohl Jr. as an alternate member of Zoning Hearing Board. Soberick and Council President Joe Genits were opposed, as checks should be made to see if there are any zoning violations for potential members before seating them.
• Approved the Large Vehicle Parking Ordinance.
• Paid bills and expenditures totaling $336,926.68.
• Approved the treasurer preparing a budget versus actual spending report every month and accepted the existing budget vs. actual report from Jan. 1 to Feb. 28.
• Heard an update on placing condemnation notices on deeds. The solicitor completed some, and others have changed hands and code and zoning will get up to date on notices of violations.
• Approved a proclamation declaring April 25 as Panther Valley Cleanup Day.
• Approved the borough office staff rearranging the office area to better serve residents and relocating the code officer once an Internet booster is obtained to provide better service.
• Tabled action on buying a block heater for the loader. The cost is $2,171.46 for installation and parts. The part is only $108, Councilman Joe Butrie said, noting the costs are mostly labor.
• Approved going with Highway Equipment to rent a mini-excavator on a month-by-month basis to replace inlets.
• Approved buying American flags lost in the borough garage fire last year at a cost of $555.66. This will be paid out of borough funds received from the insurance claim. Genits also noted that inadequate snow ban signs purchased last year for approximately $4,000 were also paid from borough funds from the insurance claim.
• Heard from residents on a myriad of issues including: parking, parking tickets, one-way street requests, costs associated with a loan for a new garage, drainage and sidewalk issues, sewer problems, status of proposed forensic audit, police presence, creating rainbow crosswalks to support LGBTQ community, ordinance creation, CCTI students at the pool property without council approval or knowledge and hiring a constable for shutoff notices.
