Heritage alliance hosts history fair Saturday

In celebration of America250, the Lehighton Area Heritage Alliance is hosting a county-wide history fair featuring displays by 24 Carbon County historical societies, organizations, local historians, and historical craft demonstrators.

The inaugural Carbon County History Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Carbon Plaza Mall, Lehighton.

There is no cost to the public to attend the event.

A variety of photos, postcards, maps, artifacts, and local memorabilia highlighting Carbon County’s rich history will be on display by the following historical societies and organizations:

• Lehighton Area Heritage Alliance

• America250PA — Carbon County

• Carbon Model Railroad Society

• Jacob’s Weissport Historical Society

• Lansford Historical Society

• Mauch Chunk Museum and Cultural Center

• Nesquehoning Historical Society

• No. 9 Coal Mine and Museum

• Palmerton Area Historical Society

• Summit Hill Historical Society

• Times News

• Weatherly Area Museum

Individual local historians will be present including: Gordon Ripkey (Lehighton), Bill Harleman (Lehighton), Debra Biery and Sheila Valdez (Parryville), Larry Bulanda (SS United States) and Danadee Miller-Boyle (Fairyland Farms, Lehighton)

Historical craft demonstrations include: Music & Folk Instrument Demonstration by Dave Matsinko, Spinning Wheel Demonstration by Mahoning Valley Fiber Guild, Basket Weaving Demonstration by Sandra Palinchak, “De Schtaan” Pa. Dutch Wool Embroidery Demonstration by Kathy Long, Quilting Demonstration by Terri Sheckler, “Suffolk Puff” Sewing Demonstration by Jacque Spencer and Sauerkraut-Making Demonstration by Wayne Sheckler.

The Mahoning Valley Fiber Guild will have products and demonstrations at the Lehighton Area Heritage Alliance history fair on Saturday at the Carbon Plaza Mall. TIMES NEWS FILE PHOTO
