Bingo for a Cause is being held Sunday to offset the cost of pool passes for families living within the Lehighton area.

Doors will open at 11:30 a.m. at the Oriels Community Center, 475 Oriels Drive, Lehighton, and the games will start at 1 p.m. Along with the games, there will be food, 50/50, door prize, basket raffle and a bake sale.

There are more than 50 baskets in the basket raffle.

Event goers do not have to play bingo to take part in the basket raffle. Gift card categories include: entertainment, restaurants, grocery stores, gas stations, Amazon and Walmart.

Tickets are available in advance at a discount and at the door. Each of the 20 games will pay with gift cards valued at least $100.

“We started small the first year with giving away four pool passes in 2021,” said Mark Hoffman, who is past president of Lehighton Pool Pals. “Pool pass prices have gone up, so we will do our best.”

Forty-eight families have applied for assistance for pool passes so far this year.

While the Lehighton Borough oversees the pool, it would be hard pressed for the borough to have accomplished bringing such a great recreational center to the community without the enthusiastic support of Pool Pals bringing ideas and raising funds for the.

The last date to apply for a pool pass is April 1. The application is based on income and answers from the applicants whether they will use the pool passes and bring children for swimming lessons.

This bingo is the only fundraiser for the pool passes program.

“We try to do the best we can,” said Diane Hoffman, who was recently named president of Pool Pals group. “The pool is the place to be in the summer, and we are proud to be part of making memories for families every year.”

Pool Pals is a community minded organization that accepts members who are interested in furthering the cause of providing recreational outdoor fun for families in Lehighton.
