2 injured when vehicle hits parked car, building

Two people were seriously injured Thursday afternoon when involved in a crash in Coaldale. The incident occurred just after 2 p.m. in the intersection of Phillips and Second streets.

A Ford Explorer was traveling east in the 200 block of Phillips Street at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control.

The vehicle crossed the street striking a parked car with such force it drove it up onto the sidewalk. The Ford continued on, hitting a building at the intersection, then hit a van before coming to rest.

Two of the victims were treated at the scene by members of the Tamaqua ambulance and Lehighton paramedics before being flown from the scene by LifeFlight 6 and Medevac 4.

Fire companies from Coaldale, Tamaqua and Lansford responded to the scene. Tamaqua police are investigating the incident.
