Soups sought

Effort UMC is looking for soup donations for the Supplemental Food Resource Center this month. The SFRC is scheduled to be open March 28 from 10 a.m. to noon.

Vigil Mass time

Beginning this week, the Saturday Vigil Mass at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Brodheadsville will be moved to 5 p.m.

Saturday confessions will also be moved, to 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Another sweet day

Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center’s second Community Maple Sugaring Day is Saturday.

Environmental educators will share the history of pure maple syrup, how it is made and give attendees a taste of syrup on pancakes. There will also be 90-minute tours of the sugarbush.

Preregistration is required by calling 570-629-3061. There is a cost. Participants may choose a time from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. for their 90-minute tour.

The event is held at the Meesing Outdoor Site, 1254 Marshalls Creek Road, East Stroudsburg.

Irish dinner

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Brodheadsville is hosting a St. Patrick’s dinner at 6 p.m. Saturday in McCawley Hall. Tickets are available for a cost in the office or after Mass.

The menu includes Irish soda bread, corned beef, cabbage, potatoes, carrots, dessert and coffee.

There will also be bagpipes and raffles. Proceeds will benefit the Capital Fund.

Zion egg hunt

Zion Lutheran in Brodheadsville is hosting its egg hunt at 1 p.m. Sunday. It is a free event for everyone up to age 12.

Events alternate

St. Peter’s UMC, Saylorsburg, will host a time of Christian education after its 9 a.m. worship service this Sunday.

Next week, after the 9 a.m. worship service, a time of fellowship follows.

The church is rotating the after-worship activities.

On March 29, the fifth Sunday of the month, the worship service will be followed by a “Singspiration.”

Pastie pickup

Folks who ordered pasties from St. Matthew’s in Kunkletown are reminded that they can be picked up at the church on Monday.

Legion event

American Legion Post 927 in Gilbert will host a St. Patrick’s Day party from 7-11 p.m. Friday.

Cleanup Day

Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm has set Saturday as its Cleanup Day. Many hands can help get the museum and farm grounds ready.

At 11 a.m. Tuesday, American Legion Post 927 in Gilbert is hosting another Military Share Program.

The Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville hosts a monthly St. Luke’s Hospice bereavement support group.

Community dinner

Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville is holding it next free community dinner on March 18. People can pick up a hot meal from 5-6 p.m. by way of a drive-thru. All are welcome.

MSVP volunteers

There is a big need for volunteers to use their talents to help their neighbors through the Monroe County Senior Volunteer Program. Needed are folks to help others with grocery shopping and delivery; medical transportation; friendly visitor/phone pal; veteran and military family programs; school programs; clerical/office help; Medicare/health insurance counseling; and personal care/nursing home visits.

Tax rebate

The Pleasant Valley School District’s tax rebate program has been open for those who qualify since Feb. 1. It will continue through Dec. 31.

Required is a signed copy of 2025 PA-1000. Income must be below $46,520.

The rebate is based on the balance of school taxes not reimbursed under the state program. Copies of paid school tax receipts must be supplied.

Senior spelling bee

The Monroe County Area on Aging Agency and the Eastern Monroe Public Library has announced its 2026 Senior Spelling Bee for those 55 and older.
