Monroe commissioners
The Monroe County commissioners approved the following items last week:
• Professional agreement with Reilly Associates for engineering services in the amount of $29,500 for development of a parking area on a lot at North Sixth Street and Quaker Alley.
• Advertise for a request for proposals for Continuity of Operations/Continuity of Government Plan for the County and for the Act 537 Component 3 Plan Update.
• Safe Monroe to use Courthouse Square from 4:30-6 p.m. on April 2 to hold the Take Back the Night Rally;
• Adding these vendors to the County List of Approved Vendors — Grants, Kerianne Ellis and Hailstone Economics LLC; and for the Monroe County Correctional Facility, Combined Systems Inc.
America 250PA
Announcements
• Commissioner David Parker announced that the Facebook page for America 250PA Monroe County is working to post each day about events that occurred in history in the county.
• Parker also said that parade applications are available for the Independence Day Parade on July 4. The parade will start at 10 a.m. at Stroudsburg High School.
• Dave Matsinko, known as the Minstrel of the Mountains, will perform traditional music from the revolutionary period at 2 p.m. on March 20 at the Barrett/Paradise Friendly Library, 6500 Route 191, Cresco. Admission is free.
• Commissioner Sharon Laverdure added that the deadline for quilt submissions for the Stars and Stitches Forever contest has been extended to March 27. The contest was created by the Monroe County Historical Association in honor of America 250PA. For more information, visit https://monroehistorical.org/250pa.html. The quilts will be exhibited from May 5 to Dec. 11 in the Hughes Community Room at the historical society.
