Shepherd House director honored
In his four decades with Shepherd House Food Bank, he has left behind a legacy defined by faith, integrity, humility and enduring compassion.
The Rev. Stanley Haupt, executive director of Shepherd House, is retiring after 41 years of service.
On Monday morning, Carbon County Commissioner Rocky Ahner presented a proclamation to Haupt on behalf of the Carbon County Board of Commissioners at the Carbon County Children and Youth building in Lehighton.
Ahner noted that Haupt was instrumental in the growth and expansion of Shepherd House Food Bank, and through his dedication and tireless efforts, helped shape the organization into the strong and far-reaching ministry it is today.
Under Haupt’s leadership, Shepherd House Food Bank expanded in capacity, strengthened community partnerships, inspired volunteers and increased its ability to inspire individuals with dignity and hope.
Ahner thanked Haupt for all his years of tireless service.
“What he has done for Shepherd’s House is outstanding,” Ahner said.
Haupt, of Franklin Township, was clearly humbled by the accolade.
“This is quite an honor,” Haupt said. “It was a really pleasant surprise.”
Haupt stressed that in his 41 years with Shepherd House, it’s always been about the good of the people in Carbon County.
“It’s been making sure the people get the food they need; that’s what it’s all about,” he said. “I’m thankful the work is going to continue beyond me.”
Nicole Folino, community services manager at Second Harvest Food Bank, said they are “eternally grateful” to Haupt, and added it’s been a “wonderful experience” working with him.
Despite retiring from Shepherd House Food Bank, Haupt remains active.
He currently serves on the Carbon County Action Committee.
In addition, Haupt also volunteers with St. Peter’s Community Resource Center, where he packs soap and toilet paper for the families.
He also attends People’s EC Church, in Franklin Township.
Shepherd House Inc., which has for years served as the lead agency to provide supplemental food assistance to low income individuals and families in Carbon County, oversees nine area food pantries in county communities.
Shepherd House is based at 1067 Main Road, Lehighton.
