A New Philadelphia man who fired several shots at state police from the Frackville barracks who responded to an active domestic incident at 9:39 a.m. Monday was found dead after a nearly four-hour standoff.
Police said Kevin C. Cole, 44, died from what police said appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Police said they responded to 83 Valley St. for the active domestic incident.
They entered the residence and Cole fired at troopers multiple times. No one was hurt.
They said they were able to get the victim, a 35-year-old New Philadelphia woman, out of the residence and immediately secured the perimeter of the home.
Troop L SERT and major case teams were activated. They attempted to get Cole to surrender into custody, but were not successful.
Police said SERT team members then reentered the residence and found Cole dead.
Police said the incident was an isolated one and that there is no threat to the public.
Assisting at the scene were police from Frackville, Minersville, Orwigsburg, Saint Clair, Schuylkill Haven, Shenandoah and the Tamaqua Area School District, as well as officers from the Schuylkill County Sheriff’s Office.
