State police at Fern Ridge
State police at the Fern Ridge barracks reported the following incidents:
• Police are investigating a theft by deception incident in which a 70-year-old woman from Effort is the victim.
They were called to a property on Gilbert Road, Chestnuthill Township, at 2:42 p.m. Feb. 5.
The resident said someone contacted her, saying he was an attorney named Kyle Geoffrey Sandler and telling the victim he cold offer her legal advice that would guarantee her family member would get a significant reduction in his upcoming sentencing.
The woman did have a family member going through the court process at the time and assumed the family member had requested the unidentified subject to contact her.
Police said the caller charged the woman $7,500, which she made through a credit card payment, and did not render any services to her.
They said the credit card company’s fraud department is conducting an investigation and has temporarily replenished the withdrawn funds so that there is no financial loss at this time.
• Police said a 19-year-old man from Brodheadsville has been charged with simple harassment after they were called to Piaxtla Road, Chestnuthill Township, at 9:19 a.m. Feb. 16.
They said the man had an argument with his 46-year-old mother and struck her several times after becoming enraged. They said a 15-year-old boy intervened and attempted to pull the 19-year-old off his mother, which resulted in the arrestee and the boy becoming involved in a fight.
They said the 15-year-old fled to the kitchen of the home where he secured a knife for self-defense. The 19-year-old then attacked the boy and was ultimately cut by the knife.
Police said he had a laceration to the back of his head. He received immediate medical attention when police arrived and was transported to an area hospital where it took 12 stitches to close the wound.
• Police were dispatched to Enterprise, Scott Street, Chestnuthill Township, at 3:41 p.m. March 4 after a firearm and ammunition were found.
They said an empty 16-round magazine, a Smith and Wesson SD9 and a 9-mm luger ammunition were found in a 2024 Nissan Rogue.
Police said the property was collected for safekeeping and the owner has been notified.
• Anibal Alcantara, 62, of Stroudsburg, was charged with terroristic threats and reckless endangerment after police responded to an incident at 6:49 a.m. Feb. 26 at 135 Colleen Street, Jackson Township.
They said the incident was between a vehicle owner and a repossession tow truck operator, during which time Alcantara pointed a shotgun at the victim.
Alcantara was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Daniel Kresge and transported to the Monroe County Correctional Facility, Snydersville, for processing.
A 2025 Chevrolet Colorado was involved in the matter.
