Lehighton Borough Council
Lehighton Borough Council took the following action on Monday:
• On a 6-1 vote, approved $2,500 bonuses for both the assistant borough manager and borough treasurer. Councilman Joe Flickinger was opposed.
• On a 4-3 vote, rejected the idea of holding two borough council meetings per month. Council members Grant Hunsicker, Joe Flickinger, Steve Hawk and Jordyn Miller were opposed, with council members Becky Worthy, Dave Arndt and council President Dave Zimmerman in favor.
• Approved the 2026 fee schedule as follows: Pool pavilion, $300 charge for 30 people and $400 charged for up to 50 people; Sixth and Coal pavilion, $150; Baer Memorial Park pavilion, $150.
• Hired Terrence Wentz for the Light & Power Department as a lineman helper, at the rate of $27.23 per hour, which is 90% of the contracted 2026 wage for lineman helper, pending pre-employment requirements.
• Agreed to advertise the amended snow emergency routes ordinance.
• Approved an extension letter for Lehighton Ford’s relocation at the recommendation of the planning commission.
• Approved an extension letter for Armin Feldman’s lot consolidation at the recommendation of the planning commission.
• Approved Lehighton Area School District’s commencement motorcade with road closure on June 8, starting at 6 p.m.
• Tabled Lehighton Borough Parks & Recreation Board’s request for a Fourth of July Block Party from 2-10 p.m. July 4, to gather further information.
• Appointed Valerie Bennett to fill Parks & Recreation’s one-year term vacancy at the recommendation of the Parks & Recreation Board.
• Approved the Carbon County Art League and Lehighton Parks & Recreation Art in the Park events on May 9, June 13, July 11, Aug. 8, Sept. 12 and Oct. 10 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Approved Whippin’ Waters Lure Company’s Kids Fishing Derby from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. May 31 at the Baer Memorial Park and Pavilion.
• Approved a $50 Carbon County Sports Hall of Fame ad for 2026.
