Road closure set at Walter dam

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Philadelphia District announced that approximately 2.5 miles of the Francis E. Walter Dam Road on the Route 940 side of the dam will be closed from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday.

The Army Corps and the Pennsylvania State Game Commission will be jointly felling high-hazard trees in the area requiring the road closure. The park will remain accessible for visitors through the Bear Creek White Haven Entrance only.

The Francis E. Walter Dam was constructed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1961 and has prevented more than $360 million in flood damages. It also supports recreation in the Lehigh Valley with planned fishing and whitewater rafting water releases.
